MEMBERSHIP DRIVE

AT THE START OF PLANNING YOUR TYG"S "MEMBERSHIP DRIVE" ASK YOURSELF SOME QUESTIONS ABOUT YOUR CONGREGATION'S POTENTIAL FOR NEW MEMBERS:

-Does your congregation have a Junior youth group?
It is very important for your congregation to have a Junior youth group.  If your congregation does not talk to the leadership in your congregation about developing one.   Once a Junior youth group is developed have the senior youth group help the junior youth group in different activities.  It is common for some of the Senior youth group members to for example chaperone a junior youth group dance.

-Can you get a list of potential TYG members from your congregation's Religious School?
See: Making TYG-RELATED PHONE CALLS

-Is your temple educator a "fan" of the youth group?
Try to see if your temple educator will let some members of the Senior youth group make a presentation to the older Hebrew school classes.  This way they can see what youth group is really like.

-How can you attract Jewish kids in your community?
Ask your (Jewish) friends in school or other activities if they would be interested in youth group. Try to develop programs that include various interests.

-What is the policy of your congregation with regards to members from unaffiliated families?
It is important to communicate with your congregation about such things.  If you think something might be questionable regarding something dealing with youth group please ask your congregation about it first.  If your congregation will allow teens from unaffiliated families perhaps you should seek out a list of Jewish teens from the JCC.

-Are there people in your TYG who are particularly dynamic or "looked up to" by younger people? Might they be helpful in membership outreach?
It is always very important to have friendly people working on your youth groups "Membership Drive".

-What is "Jewish" about your Jewish organization?
Think about how the programs and people in your TYG reflect Jewish values.  For example..think about what Jewish activities the youth in your temple would enjoy.
